Kylian Mbappe is finally heading to Real Madrid, but fans have branded him the ‘Kevin Durant of football’ following the transfer announcement.
In 2016, NBA star Kevin Durant made the free-agency move to the Golden State Warriors from the Oklahoma City Thunder, after the Warriors had made it to two straight NBA finals and were considered the closest thing to a super team.
Football fans have now likened Mbappe’s Real Madrid move to Durant’s and have claimed that the Frenchman won’t ‘get the respect’ that he craves even if he wins the Champions League with the record champions, who have won the title twice in the last three seasons.

Mbappe has already laid down his legacy on the sport despite still only being at the ripe age of 25. To his name, he has one World Cup and also possibly the greatest performance in a World Cup final, along with 15 domestic trophies with Paris Saint-Germain, as possibly their best player.
The Frenchman has received a lot of criticism for his inability to win the Champions League so far in his career and has only come close once, in 2020, when PSG lost the final to Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old is currently participating in the French national team camp in preparation for the upcoming European Championship in Germany. Les Bleus will head into the tournament as one of the favourites to win the competition and they will be hoping Mbappe can turn up for Didier Deschamps’ side as he has so often.
